Care and Maintenance

To ensure long life and best performance from your rooftop tent or awning, regular care is important. Outdoor fabrics and components are durable, but they still need basic maintenance to prevent avoidable damage.

After each use:

  • Allow the tent or awning to fully dry before closing or storing.
  • Brush or rinse off dirt, dust, salt and mud.
  • Wipe down zips, seals and hardware to prevent grit build-up.

Between trips:

  • Check all mounting bolts, brackets and hinges for tightness.
  • Clean fabric using cold water and mild soap if needed.
  • Avoid harsh detergents, aerosol cleaners or pressure washing, as these can damage protective coatings.

If the product is packed away wet:

  • Open it again to dry as soon as possible.
  • Storing wet for extended periods can cause mould, mildew and hydrolysis.
  • Mould and hydrolysis damage are not covered by warranty.

About hydrolysis:

Hydrolysis is a natural breakdown of waterproof coatings that occurs when fabric is stored while damp, especially in warm or sealed environments. It causes the coating to become tacky, cloudy or flaky over time. This damage is preventable with proper drying and storage.

Long-term storage:

  • Store the product in a cool, dry and ventilated area.
  • Do not leave in direct sunlight for long periods when not in use.
  • Do not store in a sealed or sweaty bag while damp.

Reproofing:

The waterproof and weather-resistant coatings on canvas or synthetic fabrics will naturally wear over time. Reproofing every 12–18 months (or sooner with heavy use) helps maintain performance.

We recommend:

  • Wax-based or silicone-based fabric reproofing sprays
  • Apply only when fabric is clean and 100% dry
